Camelback Mountain’s Echo Canyon Trail Reopens After Storm Repairs

Hikers and outdoor lovers have great news this week. The City of Phoenix has officially reopened the Echo Canyon Trail at Camelback Mountain after it was closed for weeks due to storm-related damage. The trail, one of the most popular and challenging hikes in the Valley, was shut down in October when heavy rains and storms loosened and eroded large boulders along the route, creating safety risks for visitors.

City crews worked with geotechnical and civil engineers to stabilize the unstable rocks, using expanding grout to ensure they separated safely from the trail corridor. With that work now complete, hikers can return to this iconic Phoenix hike. Some final safety upgrades may still be in progress, but the trail is open for public use as of Sunday, December 14.

Echo Canyon Trail offers a steep, rugged climb with excellent summit views and remains a favorite for experienced hikers. As always, come prepared with plenty of water, sturdy footwear, and check trail conditions before you go
