I’m very excited to bring on another voice & contributor to HikePhoenix, especially one with first hand insight & experience of trails all over Arizona.

Please welcome Bruce Donaldson!

I’ve been hiking trails in Arizona for 40 years with over a dozen trips to the bottom of Grand Canyon. The last one was a 12 hour Rim to Rim hike. My wife & I helped start the Phoenix Orienteering club in the late 90’s. Orienteering is a racing sport that relies on speed and land navigation skills. Backpacking experiences include the Arizona Trail, the Black Canyon trail, countless trips to the Superstition Mountains, as well as the beautiful Mogollon Rim. The latest trip was a 3 day 20 mile backpacking trip on the Cabin Loop trail north of Payson a couple months ago. I’ve been an instructor for the Arizona Mountaineering Club, and have had extensive training in wilderness survival and backcountry first aid.

Bruce will help lend a fresh perspective on what is happening in the local hiking scene here in Phoenix, much different than an out of breath new hiker like me.

Keep an eye out for lots of cool content from Bruce.

Another of Bruce’s many talents is nature & bird photography. He posts images of local birds almost every day in a local Facebook group. You can see some of his amazing images here.
