Thunderbird Conservation Park is a hidden gem in the northwest part of Phoenix. It doesn’t have any of the trendy hikes like Piestawa Peak or Camelback, but it does have several fun hikes that are easy to get to and have some amazing views.

I’m a bit partial because I live nearby and the hikes in this park are my regulars, but even if you don’t live nearby, Thunderbird is a worth a visit.

The most popular trail in Thunderbird Conservation Park is The Arrowhead Point Trail. At the peak there is an American flag and you’re rewarded with views to the south of the community of Arrowhead Lakes.

Summary from AllTrails (link):

The trail in Thunderbird Conservation Park offers breathtaking views of the sunset and beautiful spring flowers on the hillsides. The terrain starts out sandy and becomes rocky as you ascend. It's recommended to wear good shoes with tread and be prepared for no shade. The switchbacks make the climb enjoyable, allowing for incredible views.

Length: 2.9 miles
Elevation Gain: 469 feet
Estimated time: Various (usually about an hour, depending on how long you stay at the peak.
Type: Out & back, with optional loop

Most people, myself included, go up the switch backs on the on the east side of this loop. The stretch on the west side is a long straight section with a strong decline. I have found it to be easier to go down.

Also, it is easiest to park along Pinnacle Peak Road, as there is a large parking lot that is never full, thanks to an overflow lot that was added a few years ago. The one downside is there is no restroom at this parking area.

There is parking & restrooms at the main area off of 59th Ave, and there are trails that will connect to access the Arrowhead Point Trail, but you will add about a half mile to your hike.

This is a VERY popular trail and you will not be by yourself on the mountain! 😎 Please be kind & courteous to your trail mates.
