Living in the Northwest Valley of Phoenix (Arrowhead Ranch in Glendale to be specific) we have easy access to Lake Pleasant Regional Park, which we try to take advantage of as much as we can. That can mean running out there at the end of a day and enjoying a sunset & some quiet, or taking advantage of the trails and amazing lake views from the peaks.

This hike was with my son Tyler, and we had a great time. Also, this hike was in December, we were not out there in this summer heat.

One note on this trail, you do have to pay an entrance fee to get into the park, but its just $8. It is worth it for the views, in my opinion, and it helps support a good cause.

Summary from AllTrails (link):

This trail offers stunning views of Lake Pleasant and the surrounding desert landscape. The terrain is relatively easy to navigate and suitable for all skill levels. You might spot burros in their natural habitat along the way. Some parts of the trail may be narrow and rocky, but overall it's manageable. The trail is home to a variety of beautiful and unique flora, including many saguaros.

Length: 2.9 miles
Elevation Gain: 439 feet
Estimated time: 1:17
Type: Out & back, with optional loop

This is the map of our hike, it took me about an hour and 20 minutes in total and there was an elevation gain of 505 feet.

Most of this trail is on the west facing side of the mountain, so if you go in the afternoon a good portion of the trail is in the sun. That said, if you go late enough in the day you will be in the shade for a lot of the hike.

The parking lot isn’t huge, but there is some overflow parking.
